Happy Halloween!

Vintage 1950s children's book, The Bobbsey Twins at School

Happy Halloween to you! 🎃🎃

Here are the Bobbsey Twins putting the finishing touches to their pumpkin, taken from the vintage 1950s children's book, The Bobbsey Twins at School by Laura Lee Hope.

The Bobbsey Twins were two sets of fraternal twins: the older Nan and Bert and the younger Flossie and Freddie. Did you know, there were a whopping 72 original books in the series! It was published by the Stratemeyer Syndicate, who also brought us Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys.

I have never read any Bobbsey Twins, but I suspect they are the American equivalent to Enid Blyton. The books were also scorned in the same way that Blyton's were, and were banned from public libraries in the US for many years. This was due to fears that they were "unworthy trash" which would rot children's brains, and prevent them from reading any "good" literature. This actually ended up boosting sales, as kids went out and bought what they couldn't find in the library 🤣

I don't think Laura Lee Hope cared much about the ban, as she was completely fictional 🙃 The books were actually written by a number of different authors over the years.

Were you a fan of the Bobbsey Twins?

And what are you planning to make with your leftover pumpkin?
