How are you all feeling? I am definitely coming down with some sort of lurgy, so these books seemed appropriate – myxomatosis, plague and, well, a giant bear (I do have a sore head 🤣).

I have never read Watership Down, but, like many people, I have been traumatised by the movie and have subsequently suffered the misfortune of having Bright Eyes stuck in my head for days. But did you know that The Plague Dogs is also an animated movie? Apparently it also contains “violent imagery, and emotionally distressing scenes”, and also stars (the very excellent) John Hurt. So Watership Down with Dogs then.. not one I will be tracking down to watch with my Lemsip.

Another interesting fact about Plague Dogs, they feature maps drawn by the legendary Alfred Wainwright. Wainwright didn’t actually start working on his first Pictorial Guide until was 45, and Adams didn’t start working on Watership Down until he was 46. Which makes me feel a whole lot better for some reason. Even if my head still hurts 😩 How do you feel about animal stories?
