I hope you are all staying safe and dry today as Storm Claudia rages through the UK. I did manage a walk around the block with the dog without getting blown away, but the bins hadn't fared as well. There was cardboard everywhere.
I really hope we don't have flooding after all this rain. The village I used to live in was badly flooded back in 2023, and it's devastating. It seems like nothing much has really changed over the years. This vintage 1962 Puffin book by Paul Berna was first published in 1960. It tells the story of pupils in a boarding school who are cut off from the outside world when the Loire bursts its banks.
Paul Berna was actually French - his real name was Jean-Marie-Edmond Sabran, but I daresay most people these days aren't really familiar with either name. Back in the day though, he was quite successful. One of his books was made into a film by Disney and another was read on Jackanory, which says a lot if you're a certain age and grew up in the UK.
Have you read any Paul Berna?
